WTGS OverviewWelcome to the West Texas Geological Society website. We are individuals who share an interest in the geology of the Permian Basin. Our membership includes, but is certainly not limited to, people from the petroleum and environmental industries, as well as those doing research in the academic arena. Our foremost mission is to share information through monthly luncheon meetings, field trips, and publications. We also hold an annual symposium. To stay involved with the community, the West Texas Geology Foundation, our educational arm, sponsors teacher training programs, teacher awards, student scholarships, and special projects. Several annual social events, such as the skeet shoot and the Rockhound Golf Tournament, round out our repertoire. Our regular monthly luncheon meetings take place at the Midland Center on the second Tuesday of every month. The events section of this site has more information about WTGS and Permian Basin meetings. We have numerous activities headed by committee chairs. The whole organization is led by the WTGS officers. Both committee chairs and officers can be contacted by clicking here. If you’re not a member but have an interest in oil and gas resources and/or geology in general, we hope you will consider joining the WTGS or another local society with which we work closely, the Permian Basin Section SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology). Thank you for your interest and please let us know how we may better serve you through this web site. News
